i am having difficulty answering this question on my appliction form, any help would be greatly appreciated,

you aint the only one!! i got asked a similar thing in a recent interview and didn't have a clue where to start!!

you have to look through your background. Have you ever been in leader postion to where you were the one who made a decision and explained this decision and or plan making to the others you are working with?

And keep in mind that it doesn't have to be work-related. Maybe you came up with an idea in school or at home or somewhere else. Think of everything you've ever done--have you ever gone camping and came up with the best way to put up the tent or found the best site to set up at? Have you ever had big chores to do with someone else and came up with a more efficient way of doing them? It doesn't have to be huge, just uniquely yours.

If I, as an employer, want you to tell me about any situation where you demonstrated leadership qualities, I don't care if it's in a previous job. It's entirely possible you're new to the workforce and have never held a job before, or that your previous jobs have never given you the chance to make this kind of choice or decision, but you might have had those chances in an after-school activity or volunteer position. I want to see how you handle real life...so feel free to draw on ALL your knowledge.

Yeah I would say so, you could be new to the work force. That does make sense.

Now for an oldie like me, I could draw on lots of work experience (I got my first full time job in 1977), but there are still things from my life that I could use as well.

These questions are made to make you think. There are probably many examples but they do not always pop in your head immediately. Take the time to think and you will come up with something good.
