What can I do to appear more confident at interviews?

I am shy and I think some interviewers might confuse my shyness with my not wanting the job.

You can try to copy the position of the interviewer. Not exactly, so it gets irritating, but just a little. This way you look like you are interested, instead of shy.

Write down on a paper what you want to see before the interview. (3 days in front) Write down why you want the job, what you know about that company, why you fit in that company, how you would describe your study etc. And learn those sentences. This way you can't be afraid you say the wrong things, and you don't have to think about an answer.

When they are telling something about their company, make sure you are in an interested position (for example copy the interviewers position) and try to say some words like "nice" ," I really like that".

One of my best tips inorder to overcome my shame is to think that I'm a celebrity standing in stage and all of my fans are shouting for my name. In that scene, I'm always a star and shame is not in my vocabulary. Try it!

You can also role-play with a friend and get your friend to be a potential boss giving you an interview so you can practise your skills.

I tend to be shy too and then I get nervous due to it. What I started to do was to think to myself before an interview that it was ok if I did not get the job. This might sound as if it would make me less motivated. But that was not the case. I just didn't panick as much and was able to relax and even be a bit more outgoing.
