Hi All
Ive signed up just to ask a few questions about my cv. To introduce my current situation im just coming to the end of the third year of my marketing degree and am expecting to achieve a good 2:1 grade. I am therefore looking to produce my first cv's and begin applying for my first job. My main problem is while ive done well in education and work experience (Ive had a few jobs in supermarkets as well as working for a national pub chain where i was promoted to a supervisor position which allowed me to experience extra responsibilities) ive never really done anything outside of part time jobs and education. Therefore i dont really have anything to put into an achievements section. Ive never really done any extra curricular activities and my main hobbies (Sport, reading socialising etc) havnt ever involved me actually achieving anything. Again my jobs have seen me stick to my main duties and although ive been good at them i havent ever had the chance to actually achieve anything for the companies ive worked for. Im therefore worried about this section and am thinking that if i leave it out i will be at a disadvantage from the competition. Again im worrying about standing out as although ive done well in jobs and at uni ive only gained what i see as the standard skills such as good communication and teamworking skills. Im mainly looking at jobs in both the marketing and journalism fields.
Any help on what i should do about the achievements section as well general advice on how i can make my cv / covering letters stand out from the competition would be greatley appreciated.
Many Thanks

Hi Jarvis!
Don't worry - this is a common problem for students and recent graduates and is to be expected when you've only had a limited amount of experience.
However, there is an easy way around this as your achievements could focus on anything. For example, in each of your supermarket roles, you would have developed transferable skills, such as communication, organsiation etc. In addition, you mention that you gained promotion - you should make the most of this point in your CV. |

Hi LuPe!
If you start a new topic and paste your CV into the message (removing all personal details), and we'll see what we can do. |
