I got to thinking about this reading the "physical appearance" thread and it occurred to me that it's not enough to be well dressed if your hair is greasy and your teeth are brown and you smell like an armpit. Remember to be nice and clean, not just neat in appearance. And NEVER wear cologne or perfume. Some employers are going to be allergic and you'll lose the job the minute you walk in the door smelling like heavy perfumes.

To me theres nothing wrong with wearing perfume just don't wear too much of it. You don;t want to wear a whole bottle of it. Just maybe a dabb or two.

Let me say right here that *I* am one of those who is sensitive to scents and I run a scent-free clinic because some of my clients are extremely sensitive. If I were hiring a receptionist, any applicant wearing ANY perfume at all would be very low on my initial list. If she (or he, wearing cologne) would agree never to wear it again, then that would increase the chance of hiring, but you have to be careful. You never know who has potentially life-threatening allergies to the chemicals in perfume, deodorant and so on.

I would say go fragrance free. There are a lot of people who can't handle scents. It can be migraine triggers, allergy and even asthma triggers for some.

I wear a small amount of perfume when I go to interviews - but only a very small amount. I feel more confident if I have a little scent, and I'd like to think that if a company had an issue with it's employees wearing perfume they would inform interviewees and not just strike someone off the list for wearing a subtle scent.
If you smell like you tipped the entire bottle over yourself, then sure - that's plain offensive, but a small amount of scent is just demonstrating pride in your grooming IMO. |

Perfume is fine as long as it's not accompanied with a bad smell of the armpit. It will surely produce a very worst smell. Make sure that you're presentable during interviews.

Absolutely. Go to an interview looking your absolute best- double and triple check. You CANNOT make a bad first impression.
