Is it frowned upon to use a college prof as a reference if you graduated several years ago? I can always use people I used to work with, but after a while I hate to keep asking the same people.

I have a question has anyone had a bad experience with a bad reference? I mean has someone told you that they were going to give you a good reference but didn't.

I haven't ever had a bad experience with a reference. MerdeCat, I could use a college prof as reference if it wasn't long ago when i graduated. If it ages ago then I'd wouldn't prefer my prof.

I've never had an experience woth a bad refernce. I make sure that all of the people I use as refernces are people who truly respect me.

I no longer use college profs as refernces, but I graduated eight years ago.

I think if it was a really long time ago and the prof was just another prof and not the one you worked with or did your thesis with it would be odd.

A couple of years ago I used my prof as a reference when I was going back to work in the lab. I had the most experience in the lab with my prof so I used him.

I think it's fine using a professor you had in college. Any good reference is needed and a college professor is a good one.

Whenever I interview I use the same references I just let the people know that they might be getting a phone call from such and such place.
