Someone I know who's a hiring manager recently told me one person he's interviewing said he wants the manager to get to know him personally as well. He included a photo of his family and a video of him singing.

How weird is this? I don't feel that a potential employer really needs to know about my family and personal interests.

That is weird. Why would you give personal details in a interview. An interviewer doesn't want to know about your personal life.

There's nothing wrong with having some personal details come up in conversation, it shows your human side and that you're able to converse easily. However, a family photo and video singing are highly inappropriate in most cases.

In some cases, in the entertainment industry, it may be acceptable even if it's not for a performing job. It's quite the attention getter, I'll give him that.
