Internship locations

Have you ever lived many hours away from your permanent residence just to complete a 4 or 6 month long internship?

I suppose there's always a chance you'll be hired, but it just seems to be it's so awkward to expect established adults to do something like this. It means leaving a spouse behind for months.

Of course, you should try to get an internship where you live, but it's not always possible. I was offered a couple of internships I really wanted last year, but turned them down because I didn't like having to live away from my spouse. I was wanting to intern to get experience in a new career that's very competitive. No luck locally.

Has anyone else had this experience? Do you feel internships really are just for college kids?

I've never done anything like this and probably won't. If I were to move away for a few months I would need a guarantee of some kind of job. But I do think that internship jobs are for college student who are looking for a good place to work and are looking to start a career.

Most internships are geared towards college students, and location typically isn't as important to them. I had an internship in another town while I was in college and enjoyed it!

I think if I were offered one years ago I would have taken it. When you're younger it's easier to pick up and leave to see what's out there. You never know what could happen during an internship that could change your life.
