Do you evaluate a potential employer?

I try to remember that an interview is a two way street. Yes, the potential employer is sizing me up for the position in question, but I am also looking for a decent place to work.

Has anyone here ever talked to a company's current employees?

I think it is better to find out how well a company functions but you can't get that from the HR people.

  2. Diana; as usual, an excellent post!

You're 100% correct. An interview is not just a chance for the employer to find out about you, but an opportunity for you to find out about the company, the people and if you could see yourself working there.

For more information, see our page on questions to ask the company at an interview and post back here if you have any questions!

Excellent topic! I always do a lot of research about a company. Undoubtedly I find something I find quite interesting and I bring it up. Of course I add a disclaimer that if it's something that is not public knowledge then of course I understand. However every time I've done this, it's gotten us off to an excellent discussion. And, I'm able to judge from the interviewer's reaction how he or she would treat a respected employee.
