Dealing With A Bad Boss

    How do you deal with horrible bosses? I had one and she disliked me almost as much as I disliked her.

    She hated me because I was the manager of the editorial staff and they were completely loyal to me. My boss hated that. My boss thrived on people being unhappy so that she can try to be the great fixer upper. Everyone knew this.

    Of course no one trusted her. In fact once when she was walking in the very quiet office her heels were clicking on the floor. Everyone knew it was her. Suddenly someone started to hum the theme music of The Wizard Of Oz whenever the The Wicked Witch Of The West would appear on screen. All you heard was muffled laughter. My boss was quite angry.

    What I did to handle her was to basically stay away from her. We said little if anything to each other and if we did have to communicate we did it on voice mail.

    How do you deal with a boss that doesn't like you?

    I'd find another job. I've never worked with a boss that didn't like me.

    Well, sometimes it's hard to just pick up and leave a good paying job. If I could have left I would have but that wasn't an option at the time. My boss was a very jealous individual and lied about anybody and everybody. She wasn't well liked by her subordinates. In fact she was made Assistant Vice President because she threatened the company with a law suite if they didn't give her that position. They were afraid because the company was in the middle of two separate suites at the time.

    I own my own business so I haven't had to deal with a boss I don't like. I would find a new job. There's not enough time in life to waste it being unhappy.

    I have tried to ignore bosses as much as possible, whether they were difficult or not. My position is that no boss, no matter how nice they may be, is my friend.

    This way, personalities don't get in my way.
