Casual companies- what to wear?

If you have an interview with a company that allows its employees to wear business casual, should it be assumed you can wear that to an interview as well?

I've heard that it's always better to be overdressed, but that just makes me feel uncomfortable -- being more dressed up than the person interviewing me!

  2. Yes, it's best to stick to the usual formal business wear for an interview. If you're uncomfortable doing this, at least wear something 'smart-casual' - not jeans and trainers.

    Good luck at the interview!

Speaking of interview, always wear proper attire to impress a prospective employer. I used to wear coordinated blouse
and conservative shoes. My suit skirt is long enough for me to sit down comfortably.

It is important to be formal, it's better to find yourself 'more dressed up' than the person conducting the interview than finding yourself 'out of place' because of your dress code. I once lost a vacancy because I was too casually dressed even though I was qualified for the job.

I'd say go formal regardless of the position. Even if you'll be casually dressed after you've gotten the job, it's still important to make a great first impression

Dress formal for any interview whether the environment is casual but if the dress code is casual then it isn't hard to know that you can wear casual items. It's not diffcult. I think the difficult part is having to dress formal.

Dress to the level of the job you want or would like to move up to. Say for instance you're starting as a waitress at a restaurant chain but want to become a manager down the road, then dress to that level. You want them from day one to see you as managerial material and that's how you do it! But also, you can dress business casual but still look professional as well. Just use a bit of good judgement and you'll be fine.

I would stick to formal interview wear as well but I'd be thrilled to see that casual dress was allowed. I hate putting on dresses and stockings. A nice pair of slacks and a nice blouse always makes me feel good.

I always wear a nice pant suit to interviews even if it is a casual company. You dont want to be going in there looking like a slob what would that say about you.

It really depends on the position you are applying for. It is best to look like those who work at that level.

If someone is applying for construction work, showing up in business casual might lose them the job because they don't look like they can work witht heir hands!
