Bad information on a background check

Sooner or later everyone has a bad experience that leads to a poor review from a former employer. How do you deal with this possibility?

Do you contact tht former employer to find out what they say about you? Do you explain the information during the interview process?

True background checks encompass a lot more than just what your employers said about you. Are you just referring to references here?

If that's the case, maybe ask the person you interviewed with why you didn't get the job.

    We can start with references.

I have seen people who also had problems with background checks that included credit reports and criminal records where information was false or outdated.

What do you do to either correct the information, or to seek compensation for the damage caused?
