Weekly news roundup (10th December 2010)
Some good news for a change! According to a recent survey conducted by Orange, many small and medium-sized companies are planning on increasing recruitment activity in 2011 to support their optimism about the coming year.
In addition to the above, the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) found the level of both permanent and temporary appointments rose strongly in November 2010 at 3-month highs.
Following the aforementioned jobs boost in November, recruiters are now starting to notice a problem relating to skills shortages, including: HGV Drivers, Engineers, Chefs and IT specialists. Read more about this on Sky News.
Theengineer.co.uk are today reporting that over 1,300 engineering jobs are at risk at BAE systems across 6 different sites and 2 RAF bases, including: Samlesbury in Lancashire, RAF Cottesmore in Rutland and Farnborough in Hampshire. Maybe some of those affected could look at skills shortages (above) as a positive in their upcoming job search?
