Telemarketing Tips – Express Your Enthusiasm

Have you ever received a call from a salesperson who seemed less interested in their product than you were? If so, chances are you did not purchase from that salesperson.

In the high pressure world of sales it is all too easy to become burned out and blasé about your company’s products and services. The best salespeople, however, are able to retain their enthusiasm and grow their excitement with each new product launch.

That type of enthusiasm can be downright infectious, and it does come through loud and clear to your customers. Whether you are selling your product door to door or over the telephone, customers can spot your enthusiasm (or lack of it) a mile away. The more excited you are about the solutions you can offer your customers the better off both of you will be.

Of course it helps to have a product or service you truly believe in. Telemarketers and other sales professionals will want to look for a company that is a good match – one whose corporate philosophy and culture matches their own. While it may not be possible to find the perfect employer, salespeople often have a great deal of flexibility when it comes to who they choose to work for. Finding a product you can be truly enthusiastic about is half the battle. The other half is allowing that enthusiasm to come through in every aspect of your professional life.

This is sooo important. When you are making any form of outbound telesales or telemarketing call, it is important that you sound enthusiastic. Sooo important in fact that we spend 90 minutes on this subject during training. The amounts of expression, energy and emphasis used in the human voice do so much – many psychology experiments demonstrate that this makes up around 80% of the impact of a message. The actual words we use are only 20% – surprising isn’t it ?!

There is an audio CD which tells more about this phenomenon available through Associated Learning Systems (just add a . and a co and a .uk) to find “why the message you send is not the message they receive” and also one coming soon entitled “emotional leakage and what your voice says about you.”

Bottom line is you need to get into a positive mindset before picking the phone up as it will have a direct bearing on the success you have.

I think one thing that has become apparent is that EVERY business should be using, or at least considering telemarketing as part of their marketing plan! No matter what the product or size of your company, speaking to prospects and existing customers still remains as powerful as it was 20 years ago, even with today’s technology!
