I would advise taking on a few activities as a stay at home mum. Events oprganiser for toddler group perhaps or treasurer, perhaps organise an annual charity ball at uyour local church or jumble sale. Perhaps do a regular Oxfam swappit party or organise a crowd of other mums to race for life. All these shows initiative and leadership. Do something for the environmant perhaps or organise a park litter pick. It can be a one off or sustained but a variety of such do fill a cv and show that as a SAHM you have also been dynamic and resourceful.

In my book How to Afford Time Off with Your Baby I devote a whole chapter to part time work that fits well with being a full time mum and helps your CV as well as your pocket. I blog about baby budgeting at www.babybudgeting.blog.co.uk

"Organise your CV so that instead of focusing on work history, which will bring the gap in your history to the fore, put “recent experience” first..."

Filling in a gap of a working history is a common dilemma. But if you can structure your CV in such a way that could focus more on your previous experience and the value of skills you can bring to a company, that gap wouldn't be much of a problem.

In this competitive world, your CV is the first opportunity to sell yourself to the employer. As a selling document your CV need to show the benefits of selecting you over other candidates and make it easy for the hiring manager to see the specific advantages your personality and skills will bring to an company.
