CV Power Words A-J

Power words / verbs are instrumental in the success of your CV. Ideally, you should aim to use some of these words at the beginning of bullet points. For example, we see many CVs with points such as “I was responsible for increasing sales through cold calling.” This would sound better with a power word starting the sentence, “Increased sales through cold calling”.

CV Keywords

What are CV / resume keywords?

CV keywords are words and / or phrases strategically placed in your CV to help attract a potential recruiter’s attention. These keywords will be dependant upon the industry you’re interested in, the job and people specification. Many companies use software to “filter out” CVs if specific keywords do not appear.

What experience do I need to demonstrate?

  • Academic achievements.
  • Any unpaid, voluntary experience, together with the skills you gained during this time.
  • Extra-curricular activites which showcase your skills (try and keep away from the standard, “I enjoy socialising, going to the cinema, and attending the gym).
  • Employment (part / full time). Even if the experience isn’t relevant to the job / industry you’re interested in, use your CV to demonstrate your transferable / soft skills, such as: communication, teamworking, resource management, etc. Read the rest of this entry »
