How To Write a Thank-You Letter
After an interview, it is a good idea to send a thank-you letter. Not only is this showing you are courteous and respectful but this is yet another opportunity to show a prospective employer that you have good written communication abilities.
Why send a thank you-letter?
- You have a 2nd chance of making points you forgot in an interview.
- Stand out from other applicants! Thank-you letters are rare these days so by sending one you will automatically stand out from other applicants.
- Imagine you have just interviewed 25 candidates - it will be hard to distinguish between each one - a thank-you letter will help the interviewer remember you.
- When compiling a thank-you letter, ensure you use the 1st paragraph to thank the company for their time to show your appreciation. After this, use either the 2nd or 3rd paragraph to comment on points you may have missed out in an interview or even just want to "polish" to clarify certain information.
- Keep the thank-you letter to one page of A4 paper. As with CVs and application forms - make sure there are no spelling mistakes. Also, do not put off sending the letter - if possible post it the same day as your interview.
